The following video posted by Rob Christian, who attempts to refute Islam, claims that the Sana Manuscript is missing an entire section of Sura 61:6.

Here is the verse as we find it today.

[61:6] Recall that Jesus, son of Mary, said, “O Children of Israel, I am GOD’s messenger to you, confirming the Torah and bringing good news of a messenger to come after me whose name will be even more praised (Ahmad).” Then, when he showed them the clear proofs, they said, “This is profound magic.”

It claims that all the parts underlined in red in the image below are missing from the Sana Manuscript.

Here is the supposed image from the Sana manuscript that he has in his image showing that all the words between “ilaykum” and “falama” are missing.

But is any of this true? The short answer is absolutely not.

Lie #1 – The Manuscript is not the Sana Manuscript

Firstly, the image he shows in his video is not from the Sana manuscript. For reference, the Sana manuscript differs in style and dimensions from the manuscript he shows in his video. For more information on the style, manuscript dimensions, and what sections of the Quran are contained in the Sana manuscript, check out the following links [1] [2].

The manuscript shown in the video is actually the Kairo, al-Maktaba al-Markaziyya li-l-Maḫṭūṭāt al-Islāmiyya: Großer Korankodex found in the Central Library of Islamic Manuscripts in Cairo, Egypt.

Lie #2 – The verse he shows is not 61:6

The second lie in the video is that the video claims that this is verse 61:6, but it is actually 61:5. Below are the words “ilaykum” ( إِلَيْكُمْ ) and “falama” ( فَلَمَّا ) in the verse exactly where we would expect them.

[61:5] Recall that Moses said to his people, “O my people, why do you hurt me, even though you know that I am GOD’s messenger to you ( ilaykum / إِلَيْكُمْ )?” Then when ( falama / فَلَمَّا ) they deviated, GOD diverted their hearts. For GOD does not guide the wicked people.

Here is the image from the video, and next to it is the manuscript from Cairo, Egypt, side by side.

Also, here is the manuscript with the text of Sura 61 verse 5 as we have it today, and one can see that none of the words are missing or different between what is written in the manuscript and what we have today.

Lie #3 – Ahmad is Not Missing in 61:6 of the Manuscript

Now, if we look at the next page of the folio, we will see Sura 61, verse 6. As seen below, not only is the actual verse (61:6), but the word Ahmad is there as long as the rest of the verse, just like we have it in any Quran you pick up today.

Conclusion

Every claim in the video is a lie.

  1. The manuscript he showed was not the Sana manuscript.
  2. The verse he showed in the manuscript was not 61:6 but 61:5
  3. The next page of the manuscript, which contains verse 61:6, is just like we have it today, with the word Ahmad and no portion of the verse missing
