Almost every day I stumble on another individual who claims to be a messenger from God. The latest is by a person in Pakistan who claims to have discovered the greatest miracle of the Quran, which he calls “The Wrapped One Code.”
The basic claim for this miracle is the following:
- Select a unique word in the Quran
- Add all the Sura numbers this word occurs in
- Add all the verse numbers the word occurs in including repetitions
- Add the number of occurrences of this word
- Take that total number x and divide it by 2
- Then multiple that number by (x+1)
That final number will either be a multiple of 19 itself or if you add up all the digits in that number it will be a multiple of 19.
So how does this hold up? I Found a few words that only occur in the Quran one or two times and put this method to the test.
the word وَرَقِ occurs in 20:121 and 7:22
20+121+7+22+2 = 172
172/2 * 173 = 14878
14878/19 = 783.052632 (not a multiple of 19)
1+4+7+8 = 20 (not a multiple of 19)
The word يَخْدَعُونَ occurs only in 2:9
2 + 9 + 1 = 12
12/2 * 13 = 78
78/19 = 4.10526 (not a multiple of 19)
7+8 = 15 (not a multiple of 19)
The word الصَّمَدُ occurs only in 112:2
112+2+1 = 115
115/2 * 116 = 6670
6670/19 = 351.05 (not a multiple of 19)
6+6+7+0 = 19
The word كُفُوًا occurs only 112:4
112+4+1 = 117
117/2 * 118 = 6903
6903/19 = 363.315 (not a multiple of 19)
6+9+0+3 =18 (not a multiple of 19)
The word مَسَدٍ occurs only in 111:5
111+5+1 = 117

The word جِيدِهَا occurs only in 111:5

The word وَانْحَرْ occurs only in 108:2

So out of 7 attempts, I was able to get one multiple. This is roughly in line to what one would expect to obtain statistically as well. The reason is that 1/19 numbers, or ~5.26%, will be a multiple of 19, and since we have two ways of trying to get a multiple then the probability would be 2/19, or 10.5%.
I guarantee that the person will come up with other ways to be able to create multiples of 19, but this will only hurt their case. This is because the more ways that a multiple can be generated the more likely it will be to find a multiple of 19.
For example, let’s say that in addition to this methodology they create a third way to justify a “the wrapped one” equation to obtain a multiple of 19. This will actually hurt their case even further because all they have done is increased the statistical probability of finding a multiple of 19 and inversely reduced the miraculous nature of such a finding. This is because there will now be three ways to create a number that should be a multiple of 19 and the probability of a number being a multiple of 19 if we are to select three random numbers would be 3/19 or 15.789%. If they continue to add different methods to generate multiples of 19, then eventually it will be nearly 100% likely that one method will give the desired result of a multiple of 19.
Therefore, this is not a miracle, they are not a messenger, and this is only a ruse for the gullible.
