If you ask the average person what would a society revert to if the worship of God alone was removed from that society they will most likely assume atheism. Atheism is the belief that there is no God. Interestingly monotheism is the proclamation that: there is no god, except God. In English, this can get a little confusing when referencing God with a capital “G” and god with a lower case “g”, but in Arabic this would be Allah (God with a capital G) and illah (god with a lower case g).
So the atheist claim is not that people cannot have small gods or that these small gods cannot exist for people, their claim is that there is no God, with a capital G. Atheists denounce that there is a sole Creator who is Omnipotent and Omniscient. So if a person removes God, with a capital G, from the statement “there is no god, except God” what they are left with is only god(s) with a lower case g. So removing God, with a capital G, from society does not lead to atheism, but actually polytheism.
In the last couple of decades, some of the most prolific thought leaders, authors, and voices in society have been the militant atheist like Christopher Hitchens, the author of “God Is Not Great”, Richard Dawkins, the author of “The God Delusion”, as well as Sam Harris, and Daniel Dennet who along with Hitchens and Dawkins authored “The Four Horsemen: The Conversation That Sparked an Atheist Revolution”. These individuals and a number of other influential figures made it their life’s mission to promulgate society into a full-fledge embrace of atheism. They made the discussion of God and religion in public space taboo, labeling it as unscientific, and as a form of antiquated thinking that humans must evolve out of.
The irony is that they are in disbelief not only of their own disbelief in God, but their belief in their own secular religion. They thought that because they removed God from the picture that this means that they rid themselves of religion and worship.
[109:0] In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful [109:1] Say, “O you disbelievers. [109:2] “I do not worship what you worship. [109:3] “Nor do you worship what I worship. [109:4] “Nor will I ever worship what you worship. [109:5] “Nor will you ever worship what I worship. [109:6] “To you is your religion, and to me is my religion.”
Except, all they have done is decided that they want to worship and follow another god besides God.
[25:43] Have you seen the one whose god is his own ego? Will you be his advocate?
(٤٣) أَرَأَيْتَ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ إِلَٰهَهُ هَوَاهُ أَفَأَنْتَ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِ وَكِيلًا
[45:23] Have you noted the one whose god is his ego? Consequently, GOD sends him astray, despite his knowledge, seals his hearing and his mind, and places a veil on his eyes. Who then can guide him, after such a decision by GOD? Would you not take heed?
أَفَرَأَيْتَ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ إِلَٰهَهُ هَوَاهُ وَأَضَلَّهُ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ سَمْعِهِ وَقَلْبِهِ وَجَعَلَ عَلَىٰ بَصَرِهِ غِشَاوَةً فَمَنْ يَهْدِيهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ اللَّهِ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
What these militant atheist didn’t realize is that everyone worships and everyone follows some religion. This is as natural as the fact that everyone breathes, eats, and sleeps.
[51:56] I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone. [51:57] I need no provisions from them, nor do I need them to feed Me. [51:58] GOD is the Provider, the Possessor of all power, the Supreme.
The only aspect that is up to the human being is what we choose to worship, what we choose to serve, and what we choose to follow.
[95:4] We created man in the best design.
[95:5] Then turned him into the lowliest of the lowly.
[95:6] Except those who believe and lead a righteous life; they receive a reward that is well deserved.
(٤) لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ فِي أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍ
(٥) ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَاهُ أَسْفَلَ سَافِلِينَ
(٦) إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ فَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ
What was fascinating was seeing how blind these proponents of atheism were when they thought that society would enter utopia with the removal of God from society, rather than the train wreck that was coming. When these individuals were asked what society should replace God with after embracing atheism, they scoffed at such questions. And after failing to acknowledge the depth of the question, they eventually came up with the response of equating such questions to someone asking what should a patient replace their cancer with after having it removed.
[3:25] How will it be for them, when we summon them on that inevitable day? Each soul will be paid for whatever it earned, without the least injustice.
(٢٥) فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جَمَعْنَاهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ وَوُفِّيَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ
The arrogance of such people was not a surprise, but what was a surprise was their lack of foresight to the ramifications of their actions. Since the atheist ideology has infiltrated into all facets of mainstream institutions we are not seeing less religiousism but more. Except it is manifesting itself into all kinds of strange behaviors and different forms of extremism.
When people do not believe in something they will fall for anything. One day it is COVID 19, the next it is BLM, or COVID Vaccines, or celebrity drama, or LGBTQ… and transgenderism, or Ukraine, and latest push for abortion and infanticide. People get frenzied about whatever is the latest current thing and formulate such die-hard convictions that it becomes a substitute for religion.
These causes and group identities become the religion of the masses with their own rituals, doctrine, prohibitions, and clergy. And these are all just different manifestations of polytheism.
[7:179] We have committed to Hell multitudes of jinns and humans. They have minds with which they do not understand, eyes with which they do not see, and ears with which they do not hear. They are like animals; no, they are far worse—they are totally unaware.
وَلَقَدْ ذَرَأْنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ آذَانٌ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا أُولَٰئِكَ كَالْأَنْعَامِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْغَافِلُونَ
In this world the choice is binary. Either we worship God alone as monotheists, or we set up partners next to God in the form of polytheists.
[36:60] Did I not covenant with you, O Children of Adam, that you shall not worship the devil? That he is your most ardent enemy? [36:61] And that you shall worship Me alone? This is the right path. [36:62] He has misled multitudes of you. Did you not possess any understanding?
أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَابَنِي آدَمَ أَنْ لَا تَعْبُدُوا الشَّيْطَانَ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُبِينٌ
وَأَنِ اعْبُدُونِي هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُسْتَقِيمٌ
وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنْكُمْ جِبِلًّا كَثِيرًا أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا تَعْقِلُونَ
Satan’s objective in this world is to push as many people as he can into polytheism. He does this through deception or coercion, and the second someone buys into the lies of Satan they become a polytheist choosing Satan’s point of view over what God says.
[7:17] “I will come to them from before them, and from behind them, and from their right, and from their left, and You will find that most of them are unappreciative.”
(١٧) ثُمَّ لَآتِيَنَّهُمْ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَنْ شَمَائِلِهِمْ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَاكِرِينَ
So when the atheists thought society was entering into an era of godlessness it ended up that society was actually entering the era of polytheism where everyone now has their own gods.
If there is one God then there is only one ultimate lawgiver. If there are multiple gods then there are multiple laws givers and this undoubtedly leads to chaos and corruption.
[8:73] Those who disbelieved are allies of one another. Unless you keep these commandments, there will be chaos on earth, and terrible corruption.
(٧٣) وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوهُ تَكُنْ فِتْنَةٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَفَسَادٌ كَبِيرٌ
[23:71] Indeed, if the truth conformed to their wishes, there would be chaos in the heavens and the earth; everything in them would be corrupted. We have given them their proof, but they are disregarding their proof.
(٧١) وَلَوِ اتَّبَعَ الْحَقُّ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ بَلْ أَتَيْنَاهُمْ بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِمْ مُعْرِضُونَ
God should be our only god
[21:22] If there were in them (the heavens and the earth) other gods beside GOD, there would have been chaos. Glory be to GOD; the Lord with absolute authority. He is high above their claims.
(٢٢) لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا آلِهَةٌ إِلَّا اللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا فَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
[42:21] They follow idols who decree for them religious laws never authorized by GOD. If it were not for the predetermined decision, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the transgressors have incurred a painful retribution.*
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ شَرَعُوا لَهُمْ مِنَ الدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَنْ بِهِ اللَّهُ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةُ الْفَصْلِ لَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَإِنَّ الظَّالِمِينَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
[39:3] Absolutely, the religion (deen) shall be devoted to GOD alone. Those who set up idols beside Him say, “We idolize them only to bring us closer to GOD; for they are in a better position!” GOD will judge them regarding their disputes. GOD does not guide such liars, disbelievers.
أَلَا لِلَّهِ الدِّينُ الْخَالِصُ وَالَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ مَا نَعْبُدُهُمْ إِلَّا لِيُقَرِّبُونَا إِلَى اللَّهِ زُلْفَىٰ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي مَا هُمْ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي مَنْ هُوَ كَاذِبٌ كَفَّارٌ
[37:74] Only GOD’s servants who are absolutely devoted to Him alone (are saved).
