In 1929, Edwin Hubble while observing the distant galaxies noticed that the light from these galaxies were showing a redshift in the light spectrum. This indicated that the galaxies were moving at tremendous speeds away from each other. What he also noticed was that the further away the galaxy was the greater the redshift. This meant that the galaxies that were further away were traveling at faster speeds than the galaxies that were closer by.

When he extrapolated this backwards what he discovered was that roughly 13.8 billion years ago the entire universe must have been one solid mass that in an instance exploded and created the universe.
Quran And The Big Bang
The Quran confirms the Big Bang in the following verse:
[21:30] Do the unbelievers not realize that the heaven and the earth used to be one solid mass that we exploded into existence? And from water we made all living things. Would they believe?

When the Quran uses the plural form of the word for sky/heaven, السَّمَاوَاتِ (l-samāwāti) it is in reference to the universes and not just the sky.
The verse uses the term رَتْقًا (ratqan) and it is the only occurrence of this root in the entire Quran. The derivative meanings of this root are the following: to close; be joined together; single entity; closed up.
The verse also uses the term فَفَتَقْنَاهُمَا (fafataqnāhumā), this word comes from the root ف ت ق and also occurs only this one time in the entire Quran. The derivative meanings of this root is to cleave asunder, split, break, disjoin, disunite, rend apart, burst, inflate.

Quran And The Expansion of the Universe
Before Hubble the predominant belief in cosmology was that the universe was static which was encompassed in the steady state theory of the universe. The term “Big Bang” was coined by astronomer Fred Hoyle as a sort of mockery for the theory that the universe was expanding and had a beginning. Einstein was one of the major proponents who opposed Hubble and eventually in 1931 came to concede that he was wrong. Now contrast that with the following verse from the Quran where God informs us that He will continue to expand the universe.
[51:47] We constructed the sky with our hands, and we will continue to expand it.

It is note worthy that this verse uses the term لَمُوسِعُونَ (lamūsiʿūna) which is the active form of the verb for ones who expand.

What Came First?
So far, everything appears to match our scientific understanding of how the universe came to be, but if we read the following verse there appears to be a contradiction.
[2:29] He is the One who created for you everything on earth, then turned to the sky and perfected seven universes therein, and He is fully aware of all things.
The above verse makes it sound like God created first the Earth and everything on it and then the universes which goes against modern understanding in science.
How do we reconcile this?
If you are a chemist and you wish to create the conditions to produce a specific outcome, do you start with the conditions or determine the outcome of what you want to produce first? The reality is that first, you start with the outcome you want to produce then you create the conditions by which to manifest that outcome. 2:29 informs us that God created first the decision of what to produce then the conditions by which to produce it.
[41:9] Say, “You disbelieve in the One who created the earth in two days, and you set up idols to rank with Him, though He is Lord of the universe.” [41:10] He placed on it stabilizers (mountains), made it productive, and He calculated its provisions in four days, to satisfy the needs of all its inhabitants. [41:11] Then He turned to the sky, when it was still gas, and said to it, and to the earth, “Come into existence, willingly or unwillingly.” They said, “We come willingly.” [41:12] Thus, He completed the seven universes in two days, and set up the laws for every universe. And we adorned the lowest universe with lamps, and placed guards around it. Such is the design of the Almighty, the Omniscient.
Note: The “days” of creation represent a yardstick and not in reference to physical days. So these verses inform us that the complexity of calculating the provisions for the inhabitants of Earth are twice as complex as creating the physical Earth, physical laws, and seven universes.
Notice that 41:9-10 begins by talking about the creation of earth and calculating its provisions, then in 41:11 it discusses brining the heavens and the earth into existence.
Anthropocentric vs. Biocentric World View
Anthropocentrism is the world view that considers that the purpose of the universe is for mankind, while the biocentric world view considers humans to be no more than a particular species of animal, without greater intrinsic value than any of the other species of organisms or events that occurs on Earth. While the anthropic world view considers man as the centerpiece of the universe, the biocentric view puts no special attention towards mankind.
So the question is: Are we a byproduct of the probabilistic events that transpired to create the universe, or was the universe created for the purpose of mankind?
What is the purpose of the universe?
Additonally, God did not create the heavens and the earth for amusement either.
[21:16] We did not create the heavens and the earth, and everything between them just for amusement. [21:17] If we needed amusement, we could have initiated it without any of this, if that is what we wanted to do.
[44:38] We did not create the heavens and the earth, and everything between them, just to play.
[44:39] We created them for a specific purpose, but most of them do not know.
God informs us that He created the universe for a specific purpose (10:5, 14:19, 15:85, 16:3, 30:8, 46:3), in order to test the human being.
[45:22] GOD created the heavens and the earth for a specific purpose, in order to pay each soul for whatever it earned, without the least injustice.
[11:7] He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days—and His (earthly) domain was completely covered with water—in order to test you, to distinguish those among you who work righteousness. Yet, when you say, “You will be resurrected after death,” those who disbelieve would say, “This is clearly witchcraft.”
Proof We Live In An Anthropocentric Universe
Throughout the Quran, God identifies matters that have been specifically designed for the benefit of mankind. These conditions must have been preordained to create that allow not only the the actualization of human beings, but also their advancement.
Water Prerequisite For Life
We get water through the water cycle and it is the absolute prerequisite life. Water in all three forms exists on this planet: liquid, solid, and gas. And it is because of these three forms that it is able to cleanse and distribute itself throughout the land. This allows terrestrial life to not require any work to get the water on the land, but just the properties of water itself. Water is necessary for all life and delivers itself to the land to sustain terrestrial life.
[21:30] Do the unbelievers not realize that the heaven and the earth used to be one solid mass that we exploded into existence? And from water we made all living things. Would they believe?

Additionally, terrestrial life needs essential elements of oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen that can be extracted from the atmosphere and water itself, but humans need many more elements than just this to exist.
Almost 99% of the mass of the human body is made up of six elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. Only about 0.85% is composed of another five elements: potassium, sulfur, sodium, chlorine, and magnesium. In total there are about 33 elements that are found in the human body.

Universal Solvent
Water is called the “universal solvent” because it is capable of dissolving more substances than any other liquid. This is important to every living thing on earth. It means that wherever water goes, either through the air, the ground, or through our bodies, it takes along valuable chemicals, minerals, and nutrients. As water is taken from the oceans and deposited onto land it dissolves the minerals and elements that are essential for life.

[2:164] In the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, the ships that roam the ocean for the benefit of the people, the water that GOD sends down from the sky to revive dead land and to spread in it all kinds of creatures, the manipulation of the winds, and the clouds that are placed between the sky and the earth, there are sufficient proofs for people who understand.
Water Surface Tension
Water also has higher surface tension than most other liquids. This is because of the relatively high attraction of water molecules to each other through a web of hydrogen bonds. Surface tension is an important factor in the phenomenon of capillarity, which keeps water from seeping too far underground. This factor is also essential for plant life, as if the water doesn’t stay close to the surface the plants would not be able to survive.
[67:30] Say, “What if your water sinks away, who will provide you with pure water?”
But while the oceans appear vast, as they cover 71% of the surface of the planet, just how much of Earth’s total mass is water? The total mass of the oceans is estimated to be 1/4400 the total mass of the Earth (1.35 x 1018 metric tonnes) which comes out to only 0.02% of Earth’s total mass.
And how much of the water in the world is fresh water? If we were to gather all the Earth’s fresh water together as a single mass including groundwater, rivers, lakes, and streams it would constitute just over 10.6 million km3, which works out to a little over 0.7% of the total water supply on this planet. Seen in this context, the limited and precious nature of freshwater becomes truly clear. As stated in an article on phys.org:
“The origin of water on the Earth’s surface, as well as the fact that it has more water than any other rocky planet in the Solar System, are two of long-standing mysteries concerning our planet.”

[56:68] Have you noted the water you drink? [56:69] Did you send it down from the clouds, or did we? [56:70] If we will, we can make it salty. You should be thankful.
Additionally, typically when things warm up they expand and when they cool they contract. The same principle holds for water until it freezes. This property alone allows life to flourish under a thick layer of ice in oceans and seas. This property, also in conjunction with he low viscosity of water, allows water to seep into rocks and then crack the rock when it freezes releasing more minerals to be dissolved into it.
Freeze thaw weathering is when water gets into a small crack. when the water turns into ice, the ice makes the rock expand opens it up a little more. This process continues until the whole rock slits in two. When this happens the sediment stored inside the rock can be dissolved in the water and transposed to contribute to the building blocks of organic material.

[2:74] Despite this, your hearts hardened like rocks, or even harder. For there are rocks from which rivers gush out. Others crack and release gentle streams, and other rocks cringe out of reverence for GOD. GOD is never unaware of anything you do.
Amazon Rain Forest & The Sahara Desert
Phosphorus is an essential ingredient to help plants grow. Each year in the Amazon forest during the rain season, as the rain comes in it washes the phosphorus off the top soil which is a huge disaster for the forest, but somehow after the season the phosphorus is restored and scientist weren’t sure how until they found the origins of the phosphorus to be the Sahara desert.
Each year roughly 182 million tons of dust is lifted from the Sahara and as much of this has falls into the Atlantic roughly 30 million tons gets deposited to the Amazon forest. These is essential for the creation of the Amazon Rainforest and also for the sustaining of the life in the ocean.
If you weighed all the living organisms in the ocean, 90 percent of that weight would be from microbes. Just because these microbes can’t be seen does not mean they are unimportant. Microbes are often the engines of ecosystems that otherwise would not have access to the food and nutrients they need. Many are also the keepers of healthy ecosystems, cleaning the ocean of waste and often defending against disease rather than spreading it.
[56:63] Have you noted the crops you reap? [56:64] Did you grow them, or did we? [56:65] If we will, we can turn it into hay. Then you will lament: [56:66] “We lost. [56:67] “We are deprived.”
Why does the Sahara have so much phosphorus? Millions of years ago the Sahara desert was actually a giant lake, but as the water dried up and the life decomposed it seeded the ground with nutrients. So despite being dry and uninhabitable to life today its reminisce is exactly what life needs.
[45:5] Also, the alternation of the night and the day, and the provisions that GOD sends down from the sky to revive dead lands, and the manipulation of the winds; all these are proofs for people who understand.
Plate Tectonics
[15:19] As for the earth, we constructed it, and placed on it stabilizers (mountains), and we grew on it a perfect balance of everything. [15:20] We made it habitable for you, and for creatures you do not provide for. Footnote [15:21] There is nothing that we do not own infinite amounts thereof. But we send it down in precise measure. [15:22] And we send the winds as pollinators, and cause water to come down from the sky for you to drink. Otherwise, you could not keep it palatable.
When we send astronauts into space, we provide them with precisely measured quantities of food, water, and oxygen. God created the spaceship Earth with billions of astronauts who work and reproduce; He supplied them with a self-supporting system that generates oxygen, fresh water, and a great variety of delicious foods and drinks.
Essential to all this is the formation of mountains which allow us access to much needed minerals and elements that are locked up inside the mantle and crust of the Earth. Because the Earth’s crust is made of mantles over time they move and collide against one another forming mountains that hold the mantles in place.
[27:88] When you look at the mountains, you think that they are standing still. But they are moving, like the clouds. Such is the manufacture of GOD, who perfected everything. He is fully Cognizant of everything you do.
Heat Specificity
Humans are also warm blooded (homeothermy), which provides us thermoregulation that maintains a stable internal body temperature regardless of external influence. This allows for faster nerve conduction and reflexes, faster muscle contraction, increased temporal resolution of the eye, and the ability of living and operating in a much wider spectrum of environments. The reason we are able to do this is because we are made of water and water has an incredibly high specific heat capacity. This means that it takes a lot of amount of energy to increase or decrease the temperature of water than most other liquids.
To demonstrate this consider that the average person’s body temperature is ~98.6 degrees and a few degree increase could cause a heat stroke and a few degree drop could cause hypothermia. If water had the same heat specificity of other substances it would be almost impossible to operate in the world without the continuous risk of death from the heat or cold. In addition to the benefit to warm blooded organisms, these same properties allow for the Earth temperature to be relatively stable since the earth is covered by ~71% water.
Water also has the highest level of latent heat evaporation of any known molecular substance. In short, this means that when water evaporates it carries the most amount of heat along with it. This allows warm blooded creatures to excrete heat at temperatures higher than their body temperature. This is essential for perspiration and cooling. If it was not for this single property again humans would die if they ever over exerted themselves.
Terrestrial warm-blooded homeothermy depends on the unique fitness of the thermal properties of water. These properties could have came out any which way, but they just happend to come out perfectly for the needs and requirements of man at the moment of the Big Bang.
Oxygen
Oxygen is absolutely essential for intelligent warm blooded life. To put this in perspective a 155lbs adult uses 14.5L of pure oxygen per hour at about 250mL/minute. This quantity rises to about 330L during exercise. Oxygen and carbon are both gases and soluble in water this allows aquatic life to survive, but more advanced life requires more energy making terrestrial life better suited for obtaining more oxygen. Additionally, it just happens that the viscosity of air allows for easy breathing. Also, extracting oxygen in an environment that is 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen doesn’t have any adverse effects on respiration.
Why do we need oxygen, because it is necessary for energy. Oxygen is the reaction that powers the world. A demonstration of this is a forest fire. Fires are just rapid oxidation of reduced carbon compounds. This is similar to the process that happens in the body, but slower and a lot more controlled.
Oxygen is highly reactive how come we do not all spontaneously combust? It is because of a a unique electronic characteristic of the oxygen atom that makes it reluctant to react under ambient temperatures. Think about trying to start a fire, at the beginning it is a challenge to start, but once it starts it takes off.
Also, in an atmosphere of 21% oxygen is perfect for harnessing fire. For every percent increase in oxygen in the atmosphere the likeliness of combustion increases by 70% and inversely with each percent decrease in the atmosphere. Despite this fires are still difficult to put out once started, but ends up that nitrogen is a fire retardant that absorbs the heat and reduces the spread of a fire. The conditions of ~20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen is about the mixture one needs in order to maintain combustion which happens to be exactly in line with the Earth’s atmosphere. If it wasn’t for nitrogen a wildfire on the west coast could easily engulf the entire United States.
[56:71] Have you noted the fire you ignite? [56:72] Did you initiate its tree, or did we? [56:73] We rendered it a reminder, and a useful tool for the users. [56:74] You shall glorify the name of your Lord, the Great.
If it was not for our ability to harness fire, which is highly dependent on these environmental factors outside of our control, mankind would not be able to have moved passed the stone age, into the bronze age, harness iron and steel, enter the industrial revolution, or computer age. All these conditions had of been just right for this to have been able to transpire they way it did. But man is the only organism in the entire planet who has been able to take advantage of this galactic coincidence.
The current atmosphere on Earth is unique in supporting both aerobic metabolism and controlled fire-making. The atmosphere make up is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, along with trace amounts of neon, helium, methane, krypton, hydrogen, and water vapor. There are a millions of other possible atmospheres. The vast majority of these would be inhospitable to life, let alone intelligent life. But there are a small number of atmospheres that could suffice harnessing of fire with more difficulty or intelligent life, but only one, that of Earth, that is optimized for both. Just to show how narrow this band is notice how difficult it is to both breathe and light a fire in higher elevations.
- Oxygen’s relative unreactivity at ambient temperatures
- Heat activates oxygen and becomes self sustaining
- The uptake of oxygen is unaffected by nitrogen in the air
- Enough oxygen in the air for aerobic metabolism, but not too much for sponteneous combustion
- Nitrogen is stable in the presence of oxygen
Photosynthesis
Oxygen is produced through the process of photosynthesis. The process involves light energy (from the sun) to draw electrons and protons from water, oxidizing the water to oxygen which is released into the atmosphere. In order to complete this process plants also need CO2 which just happens to be the element we extract when we breathe. In a course of a day the average man produces ~2lbs of carbon dioxide as a course of his active metabolism.
But it is not just any light that can trigger photosynthesis but an incredibly narrow band of light that is necessary. Below is the light spectrum that goes from gamma rays that have the most energy and shortest wavelength (10^-16) to radio waves that have the lowest energy and longest wavelengths (10^8). The visible light spectrum is an incredibly narrow band and the spectrum that is perfect for photosynthesis. The absorption spectrum of chlorophylls includes wavelengths of blue and orange-red light, as is indicated by their peaks around 450-475 nm and around 650-675 nm

Now it just happens that this is also the band of light that our sun happens to predominately generate.

So we have the band that is useful for the chemistry of photosynthesis and the band that is the output of the nuclear fusion generated by the sun. So the sun and stars produce the light that is absolutely necessary for plant life.
But there is another factor at play, which is the atmosphere. The precise make up of the atmosphere along with the magnetic field of the Earth, caused by the iron-nickle core, create the right conditions by which it allows the visible light spectrum to pass and filters out harmful gamma, x-ray, and ultraviolet rays that are harmful to organic organisms. Additionally, it blocks most the infrared spectrum that could cause massive swings in temperature, but allows for radio waves which are essential for scientific discovery.

[21:32] And we rendered the sky a guarded ceiling. Yet, they are totally oblivious to all the portents therein.
As all life came from water, light is also essential for plant life in the oceans, and it just happens that visible light can traverse 500 meters below the water surface.
Conclusion
From all these “coincidences” the only rational outcome is that that we are not a byproduct of the universe, but the universe was created for us. Therefore the whole world works in the service of man.
[2:29] He is the One who created for you everything on earth, then turned to the sky and perfected seven universes therein, and He is fully aware of all things.
When God informed the angels that they will be serving the humans throughout the test period—guarding them, driving the winds, distributing the rain and provisions, etc.—Satan was the only one who refused to “fall prostrate” (2:34, 15:31, 38:74).
[2:34] When we said to the angels, “Fall prostrate before Adam,” they fell prostrate, except Satan; he refused, was too arrogant, and a disbeliever.
God put everything in the heavens and the earth at our service to see whether we are appreciative or unappreciative.
[45:13] He committed in your service everything in the heavens and the earth; all from Him. These are proofs for people who reflect.
God informs us that if we fail to see this and think that we are just the byproduct of the universe then it is actually a sign of disbelief.
[38:27] We did not create the heaven and the earth, and everything between them, in vain. Such is the thinking of those who disbelieve. Therefore, woe to those who disbelieve; they will suffer in Hell.
Arthur C. Clark stated: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” And recently I heard a quote from Virginia Postrel which stated “Any sufficiently familiar technology is indistinguishable from nature.” God has loaded this universe with the most advanced technology, but because it has become so common place many people fail to see it.
[10:101] Say, “Look at all the signs in the heavens and the earth.” All the proofs and all the warnings can never help people who decided to disbelieve.
[12:105] So many proofs in the heavens and the earth are given to them, but they pass by them, heedlessly!
