According to the Hadith, there is a story that the prophet was bewitched because someone placed a spell on him, which made him delusional.

Narrated Aisha: Once the Prophet (ﷺ) was bewitched so that he began to imagine that he had done a thing which in fact he had not done.

Not only is this insulting to the prophet to claim that he was bewitched, but it also goes counter to the verses of the Quran.

In the Quran, the only ones who ever called the prophet bewitched were the disbelievers.

[17:47] We are fully aware of what they hear, when they listen to you, and when they conspire secretly—the disbelievers say, “You are following a bewitched man.”

[25:8] Or, “If only a treasure could be given to him!” Or, “If only he could possess an orchard from which he eats!” The transgressors also said, “You are following a bewitched man.”

The Quran also confirms that the prophet was never possessed or crazy. To insinuate that there was a time when he became so is also a claim only made by the disbelievers in the Quran.

[15:6] They said, “O you who received this reminder, you are crazy.

[23:70] Have they decided that he is crazy? Indeed, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them hate the truth.

[34:8] “Either he fabricated lies about GOD, or he is crazy.” Indeed, those who disbelieve in the Hereafter have incurred the worst retribution; they have gone far astray.

[37:36] They said, “Shall we leave our gods for the sake of a crazy poet?”

[52:29] You shall remind the people. With your Lord’s blessings upon you, you are neither a soothsayer, nor crazy.

[68:51] Those who disbelieved show their ridicule in their eyes when they hear the message and say, “He is crazy!”

The Quran actually confirms that the prophet was never crazy. This means that there was never a time where he was ever bewitched, like the Hadith claim.

[68:2] Not you are, by the grace of your Lord, ever one who is crazy.

Not

3biniʿ’matiبِنِعْمَةِby (the) grace
4rabbikaرَبِّكَ(of) your Lord,
5bimajnūninبِمَجْنُونٍever one who is crazy.

It is worth noting that the prefix “bi” ( بِ ) in the word ( بِمَجْنُونٍ ) following the “mā” ( مَآ ) suggests that he (Muhammad) was never crazy. For example, see 2:74, 2:85, 2:96, 2:102, 2:196.

Finally, the Quran informs us that the prophet would be protected by God until his message was fully delivered.

[5:67] O you messenger, deliver what is revealed to you from your Lord— until you do, you have not delivered His message—and GOD will protect you from the people. GOD does not guide the disbelieving people.

Even though such accusations towards the prophet are clearly insulting and go counter to the verses of God in the Quran, many people still choose to uphold fabricated stories attributed to him rather than the message he gave his life to deliver.

[17:46] We place shields around their minds, to prevent them from understanding it, and deafness in their ears. And when you preach your Lord, using the Quran alone, they run away in aversion.

[31:6] Among the people, there are those who uphold baseless Hadith, and thus divert others from the path of GOD without knowledge, and take it in vain. These have incurred a shameful retribution.
